Students Get Sponsorship for the College Hockey Team

When the hockey team at The College of West Anglia needed a new kit, two sports students as part of their studies took up the challenge to find sponsorship from local businesses.

Karen Goode and team captain Charles Baxter, approached Greencore Prepared Meals in Wisbech to sponsor the team. As a major employer in the Wisbech area with 400 people working at our Weasenham Lane site, Tim Proudlove Site Director, explained that “Greencore wanted to find a way of contributing to the local community and they were happy to sponsor this project. We hope that this donation will help to build on an already successful team and look forward to watching the progress of the College of West Anglia’s hockey team.”

The team are going from strength to strength, recently just missing out in a place in the British Colleges National Finals. Students are receiving professional coaching from Lee Dowers Hockey Development Officer and are currently competing in British College leagues and tournaments.

Tommy Goode Programme Manager for Sport and Tourism at The College of West Anglia and the students are pictured receiving a £500 cheque from Tim Proudlove of Greencore. Tommy said “It is fantastic that a local business is sponsoring our college sports team, the money will make a big difference and help to develop the hockey coaching programme.”
