Art, Design and Furniture Exhibit (10/06/2009)

Tuesday 16th June – Friday 19th June 2009 10AM - 4PM, Saturday 20th June 10AM - 2PM

The College of West Anglia, Isle campus, Wisbech is hosting a week long Art and Design Exhibition commencing the 15th June. Join us for a visual celebration of achievement and a showcase of creative work, providing a new dimension to design – imagination, inspiration and innovation! A show that since 1980, has become an annual event, during which time, the Isle campus has developed a reputation for excellence both nationally and internationally through the success of students in design competitions, university applications and employment.

The exhibition celebrates the achievements of students from First Diploma, National Diploma in Graphic Design, Fashion and Clothing, Art and Design, Foundation Studies in Art and Design, Higher Education degree programmes in Graphic Design and Fashion Design & Production, A level Photography, A Level Fine Art and City & Guilds Furniture Making, Restoration & Upholstery.

There will be an opportunity to view and enjoy some highly creative and original work produced in a variety of media including painting, 3D sculpture, textiles, drawing, graphic design, computer generated design and animation, fashion design, furniture design and restoration.

The exhibition celebrates the success of all our students completing their studies this year, from a wide range of programmes, a culmination in most cases, of two years hard work – of which they should be proud.

The year has been filled with a number of exciting and successful events for the students: The graphic design students have benefited from working on ‘live’ briefs and entering National design competitions. For the third year running, a student from the Isle campus Samantha Fulcher, a first year Fashion student, won the British Glove Association competition 2009 for ‘most commercial glove’ and a cash prize of £500 plus a week’s work experience with Dents in Warminster. In addition, this year another student Rachel Cooper-Wherry also won first prize for the ‘day at the races production’ category.

The exhibition will take place in a dedicated block of the college spreading over six studios, along with work displayed in the foyer and main hall where a map directing you to the main displays can be found.

A live catwalk show will also form part of the end of year celebrations. Designers on the BTEC National Diploma in Fashion & Clothing and NEW Foundation Degree in Fashion Design and Production will present their creative and inspiring work, an exciting fun and funky mix of fashions to be viewed.

Debbie Munford, Foundation Studies Art and Design Course Director, said “An impressive amount of high quality work, from sophisticated graphics, individual work in fine art, to beautifully presented creative fashion, surface pattern and textiles”.

“I have taken some design ideas from different eras and used them as a template to create exciting conceptual garments to alter the shape of the body”, said Sarah Dowling from Peterborough a student on the Foundation studies art and design course who will be taking a place at Westminster University to study a BA in Fashion.
