24 hour Grooming Marathon (14/03/2008)

Dog Grooming

Students from the Orchard Grooming Centre, part of the land-based campus in Wisbech are holding a 24 hour Grooming Marathon in aid of charity. This is the first time such an event has ever been attempted. The students are organising and running the event on Friday 25th to Saturday 26th April (9am start), in order to raise funds to help stray dogs and injured animals aboard.

Jayne Marchant, Grooming Course Director said, “As we are in the dog grooming business and Britain is a nation of animal lovers, we felt it was appropriate to support a charity that cares for stray animals. Both staff and students chose a charity in a country where dog care is of low priority. We would like to invite everyone to support this worthy cause by sponsoring our students or by giving a small donation”.

The money raised from the event will be put to good use in the first instance helping desperate dogs in Istanbul, Turkey. The animal shelter M˙maroba Beldes˙ located on the outskirts of Istanbul currently holds 250 stray dogs and is in dire need of funds to help provided food and shelter for the animals. In addition, the students hope to raise enough funds to make a donation to the Dog Trust Workers in Romania.

If you would like to have your dog groomed in support of this event then please contact Jayne Marchant at the Orchard Grooming Centre on 01945 581024. Alternatively you can make a donation or sponsor our students by requesting a sponsorship form directly from the college or by leaving a donation in the collection at reception.
