Cutting of the the Ofsted outstanding cake

About 60 students, from engineering at the College of West Anglia, Isle Campus in Wisbech were thrilled to attend this years Autosport International Racing Car show at Birmingham’s NEC, one of two days for automotive industry professionals only. This astonishing collection of motorsports related industries from across the globe included a staggering cross section of trade stands. This exhibition gave the engineering students the possibility of looking into the future and seeing one of the careers areas that they might be working in.

There were sights and sounds to inspire and astound all visitors. At the Hardinge stand, some of our students were lucky enough to receive calendars autographed by World Supersport rider Chris Walker, who will be riding for the Gil Kawasaki Supersport team, and Tom Tunstall who unveiled the1000cc Honda Fireblade Superbike, he will be racing in this years British Superbike Cup.

Our Motor Sport sponsors were presented with photographs of the Formula Vee currently being rebuilt in our workshops as a token of thanks for their generous support. We would like to thank Danny and Guy of ToolStars for their continued backing, GPR Race Clothing, Christine at Farecla, Fiona Bodell at 3M and all of our other benefactors.

Students spoke of their excitement at the visit, from the huge variety of displays including racing car teams, higher education providers and the extensive range of employment opportunities they have discovered which have inspired them and widened their horizons in a very positive way.

The Colleges engineering tutors hope there will be further trips to events and shows in the future as integral parts of the engineering faculty courses.
