Students help "Help for Heroes" (06/02/2009)

Twelve students have battled the elements to raise £1403.80 for Help the Heroes. The pre-uniformed and public services students climbed the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales, Pen-y-ghent (691m), Whernside (728m) and Ingleborough (723m) in December. The weather conditions were very tough with snow, ice and strong winds.
The aim was to complete the 24 mile challenge in less than 12 hours. Six students successfully finished the course in 10 hours and 41 minutes. The students were supported by three tutors as their stamina and determination were thoroughly tested,
Programme Manager Lee Mallott said “this was a tough challenge, completed in poor conditions but it is an outstanding achievement and I am very proud of them.” The £1403.80 was raised in aid of Help for Heroes, the charity started in October 2007 to help support our wounded servicemen and women injured in the current conflicts.
