Plumbing link with Germany (01/12/2008)

Plumbing

Two members of the plumbing department at The College of West Anglia have instigated the first steps towards establishing a plumbing link with a college in Germany. Tom Griffiths and Mark Bywater spent two days at the ‘Heinrich-Hertz-Kolleg’ in Bonn, Germany.

It is the first time the plumbing department have instigated a link with a college outside of the UK. In an effort to continuously improve teaching practices and standards we have decided to investigate training techniques in a German college. As Germany is perceived to be leaders in the field of plumbing, it was also an exercise to observe any new and developing technologies being used, which normally reach the UK years later.

The German college have been invited for a return visit in January/February next year. The long term aim being the establishment of a student link which will involve a working partnership on projects involving students from both colleges.

Tom Griffiths one of the Plumbing tutors commented “This is hopefully the beginning of a constructive and fruitful working partnership between our two colleges. It gives us an insight into how we compare with our European neighbours, and how we can learn from each other to further improve our teaching at The College of West Anglia”.
