‘Tots to Teens’ Childcare Business out to Tender
The College of West Anglia are inviting proposals from interested parties to take over the ‘Tots to Teens’ childcare provision at the Isle campus, Wisbech.
Currently the provision is delivered from the Isle campus and consists of a pre-school nursery, an after school club, which collects children from a number of local schools and a parent and toddler club. The ‘Tots to Teen’ centre drew lots of publicity when the college recently consulted on closure due to financial pressures. The public outcry at the loss of such an excellent facility caused the college to think again. In response to the consultation process a number of local providers have since approached the college with a view to continuing this first-rate centre.
Cambridgeshire County Council have advised College staff on the process required to find a new provider. The current tender application process is in direct response to this. Consequently, this business opportunity is now being advertised to ensure as many people as possible are made aware of it.
Jill Francis, Executive Director of the College said, “It is an attractive proposal. Applicants have the opportunity of taking over a going concern with an excellent reputation. I am convinced that entrepreneurs with a nursery background can expand this provision and make it profitable. They have a ready market in our students and staff and following consultation we also have the support of the head teacher of Thomas Clarkson Community College who will promote the provision with staff and parents alike”.
Applications close on the 4th November after which a shortlist of providers will be asked to make a presentation to a panel on the 20th November. The College expects to announce the new provider in early December.
