Full time course fees for adults 2012/13

Course fees for students aged 19 and over are charged per academic year and cover tuition, exam and admin. Most courses also have an additional cost for materials / resources. All students will need to pay a contribution towards the full cost of their course but many students will be eligible for a full discount on the course fee and will only need to pay the additional materials / resource fee.

Many students will be able to apply to the college's Learner Support Fund for help with some of their costs.

We are still awaiting final confirmation from the government of fee rules for 2012-13 and the information below is subject to change. We expect final confirmation by the end of May and this page will be updated accordingly.

There are two fee rates for full-time students:

Full fee: £820 (except Access to Medicine which has a fee of £1200)

Fully discounted fee: £0


Fully discounted fee: You may be entitled to a full fee discount (you pay no tuition, exam or admin fee and only pay resource / materials fee, where applicable) if you are in one of the following categories:


1: You are unemployed, need skills to get a job and receive one of the following income-based benefits: Income Support; Housing or Council Tax Benefit; Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit); Contribution based Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) support group.

2: You are unemployed, in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance (work-related activity group). This may affect your benefits. You will need to get approval from your Jobcentre Plus benefits advisor to enable you to retain your benefits whilst studying.


3: You are aged 19-23 and do not already have a full level 2 qualification

If your course is at entry level, level 1 or leads to a full level 2 qualification and you do not already have a full level 2 qualification then you will not have to pay a tuition fee, admin or exam fee. To get this discount you will be asked to complete and sign a declaration form at enrolment confirming that you do not already have these qualifications. (Examples of full level 2 qualifications are 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, BTEC First Diplomas and NVQs at level 2)

4: You are aged 19-24 and you do not already have a full level 3 qualification

If the course you are now taking is your first full level 3 qualification then you will not have to pay a tuition, admin or exam fee. To get this discount you will be asked to complete and sign a declaration form at enrolment confirming that you do not already have these qualifications. (Examples of a full level 3 qualification include 2 A levels, BTEC Nationals and NVQ at level 3.)

Payment terms

Fees up to £150 are payable on enrolment. Fees over £150 can be paid in 3 equal monthly instalments, with the first instalment payable at enrolment. Student Services can advise further.
