Case Study - Mel Fairfax
Mel Joined Commercial Utility Brokers (UK) Ltd (CUB) in April 2008 as a Telesales Executive and started an apprenticeship “to improve my confidence and communication skills and to keep to a promise to myself, which was to complete a training course every year after leaving 6th form. The Managing Director at CUB (UK) Ltd decided it would be beneficial for me to take a qualification with the college as they are renowned for their training efforts”.
Mel has recently completed a NVQ level 3 in Customer Service and sat level 3 exams for the Institute of Marketing. She has now started an NVQ level 2 in Sales and an NVQ level 3 Learning Champion course. She also plans to start a level 4 marketing course.
Mel would say to anyone thinking about starting an apprenticeship with the College of West Anglia: “Whether you are aiming to go into a full-time career or you’re not sure of the career path you wish to take, my advice would be to just keep learning. It’s up to you to use what you learn to your advantage, it will open doors and opportunities, give you more confidence and a better chance of finding employment. By taking an apprenticeship with the college it has helped me improve my personal skills and I now have the ability to contribute ideas and knowledge to my employers”.
