The College of West Anglia

Access courses

Our Access to Higher Education courses are aimed at over 19s who want to go onto study a university level (HE) course, but who left school without the usual qualifications (e.g. A-levels) required for entry to HE.

Access courses have varying entry requirements and are usually taken in one academic year. Many Access to Higher Education students go on to succeed at university and beyond, with a large number pursuing new careers and seeing changes in their lives that they had never thought possible.

Our Access courses include Business, Computing, Humanities and Social Sciences (English, History, Sociology and Psychology), Landbased, Medicine and Dentistry, Professional, Leadership and People Studies, and Science and Nursing.

How much will it cost?

If you’re 24 or older and thinking about one of our Access to Higher Education courses, you may qualify for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan. There are no up front costs and you won’t start to pay anything back until you earn at least £21,000 a year. And if you go on to complete a higher education course (e.g. degree) afterward your Access course, you won’t need to pay off the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan.

If you are aged 19-23, there may be fees to pay, depending on your circumstances. For further information, please call student support on 01553 761144.
