Enhanced Vocational Programmes (EVPs)

With the governments new focus on apprenticeships and the widening of the scope for apprenticeship funding, the College of West Anglia's new training package offers you access to an excellent and cost efficient route to learning and development - and it's open to and suitable for all age groups.

To be eligible you or your staff need to:

  • Be working for a minimum of 16 hours per week
  • Not have achieved above a level 3 qualification
  • Not be on any other government funded programme
  • Have lived in the EU for a minimum of 3 years immediately prior to enrolment
  • Be supported to develop by the employer

The frameworks consist of a vocational qualification (NVQ/Diploma), a technical certificate (certificate/skills principles) at an appropriate level, functional skills in maths and English at level 1 or 2, Employment rights and responsibilities and from 1st April 2011, personal thinking and learning skills, which will be mapped across the full range of qualifications.

What is required of the employer?

The employer needs to support the apprentice in the job role; there may be times when learners need time to complete exams or increase literacy and numeracy skills through the functional skills hubs that have been put in place. Employers will be asked to support the review and assessment process, agree a learning plan and expected target dates. This is an excellent way to accredit current skills and develop new ones. You will also need to give us access to records to verify the learner’s attendance and allow our apprenticeship staff (as well as contracting authorities and awarding bodies) to ensure that adequate levels of supervision and safety are in place and to complete NVQ assessments, where appropriate.
