Springboard TV showcases award

The College of West Anglia celebrated their national educational award for their ground breaking internet TV channel with a cheque presentation on Thursday 12th May.

Springboard TV won the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) Award for Leadership of Innovation in Curriculum Development at the Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Awards earlier this year.  The award came with a prize of £5,000 towards further development of its teaching and learning provision and this was presented to the college by Linda Simpson representing the LSIS. The event kicked off in the Endeavour restaurant of the Vancouver building with a meet and greet and then a brief introduction to springboard TV followed by an interactive studio tour.

The studio tour involved a gallery view of a live programme making in the TV studio, a visit to the editing suite and finally previews of student films.

Jayne Walpole Springboard TV project leader said, “Our new internet TV channel has radically changed the teaching and learning on our full-time media course”. She added, “Students are involved in the creation, production and broadcast of a wide range of programmes and the format allows feedback from the general public, peers and staff. This award ceremony allows us to showcase and celebrate the variety of work we are doing”.

David Pomfret Principal said, “This is the first time the college has won a Beacon Award for Leadership and Innovation in Curriculum Development. I am extremely proud of our achievements by the media team. They responded to the college’s strategic priorities of ‘maximise student success’ and the teams creative and innovative approach is very learner centred, creating a very real and challenging experience and focuses on skills development”.
