Elite Sports Academies

CWA has a rich history of sporting success both in terms of team success in winning regional championships and producing athletes who go on to great things including professional sport. CWA’s Elite Sports Academies give students an opportunity to combine their academic studies with playing a sport. Those who are successfully accepted onto a sports academy (you will need to be on a college course and pass a player evaluation) have their academic programme built around their player development programme.
Sports academy students receive:

  • 5 hours of professional coaching per week
  • 2 hours of athlete development
  • Free gym access
  • Sports science support, including regular fitness assessments
  • Sports nutrition support
  • Sports psychology support
  • Strength and conditioning support and programming
  • Access to recommended sports specialist physiotherapists and sports therapists
  • Guest speakers from professional sports organisations
  • The opportunity to apply for sports scholarships in America

We have specific sports academies in football, basketball and rugby, but any athletes competing at a high level (county or higher) are welcome to apply. In addition to the benefits above, if you are not part of a team you will be allowed individual training time. Recent sports academy athletes have included a GB rower, a world taekwondo team champion and a national kite surfing champion.

The Sports Academy (Individual Elite Athletes)

The Sports Academy for elite individual athletes is to support talented athletes combine their education with reaching their full potential in their chosen sport by providing facilities, resources and sports science support.

CWA has seen a number of talented athletes achieve their education and progress onto high level sporting careers including an olympic runner, professional kite surfer, GB rowing talent squad member, world kickboxing champion and a professional boxer to name a few.

You will receive:

  • 5 hours built into your timetable to allow you to do specific training for your sport
  • 2 hours of athlete development programme
  • Free gym access
  • Sports science support, including regular fitness assessments
  • Sports nutrition support
  • Sports psychology support
  • Performance analysis
  • Strength and conditioning support and programming
  • Access to recommended sports specialist physiotherapists and sports therapists
  • Opportunities to develop coaching, officiating and event management skills while enriching your CV with volunteer opportunities to gain valuable experience

There is a fee to join the Sports Academy, which is paid at enrolment for those on the Extended Diploma in Sport Performance and Excellence). For all other students, this needs to be paid via the online store.

Elite Football Programme (Men and Women)

Elite Football Mens

The Elite Football Programme is the Elite Tier of our Football Development Framework, aimed at the best young footballers at under 19’s for boys and under 21’s for girls. Places are limited and those not quite ready for the Elite programme work in the Player Development Centre receiving high quality professional coaching, to develop their game.

CWA Elite Football Programmes for men and women are both current AoC Sport East Region Champions. We have seen students represent the England National College Team, Students move on to Soccer Scholarship in America and students become professional footballers.

You will receive:

  • 5 hours of professional coaching per week
  • 2 hours of athlete development programme
  • Free gym access
  • Sports science support including regular fitness assessments
  • Sports nutrition support
  • Sports psychology support
  • Performance analysis
  • Strength and conditioning support and programming
  • Access to recommended sports specialist physiotherapists and sports therapists
  • Guest speakers from professional sports organisations
  • The opportunity to apply for sports scholarships at Universities in America and the UK
  • Opportunities to develop coaching, officiating and event management skills while enriching your CV with volunteer opportunities to gain valuable experience
  • Opportunities to trial for the England Colleges National Team

Those in the Elite Football Programme will also benefit from games against professional youth teams and a series of workshops aimed at developing their careers as well as guest speakers from professional football.

CWA Fury (Elite Basketball Programme)

Basketball

The Elite Basketball Programme is the Elite Tier of our Basketball Development Framework, in partnership with Fury Basketball Club, aimed at the best young Basketball players at under 19’s for men. Places are limited and those not quite ready for the Elite programme work in the Fury Player Development Centre or CWA CSM Festivals, receiving high quality professional coaching, to develop their game.

CWA Elite Basketball Programmes are both current AoC Sport East Region Tournament Champions. Students move on to Basketball Scholarships in America, Scholarships at UK universities and National League Senior Basketball.

You will receive:

  • 5 hours of professional coaching per week
  • 2 hours of athlete development programme
  • Free gym access
  • Sports science support including regular fitness assessments
  • Sports nutrition support
  • Sports psychology support
  • Performance analysis
  • Strength and conditioning support and programming
  • Access to recommended sports specialist physiotherapists and sports therapists

Rugby Academy

The Elite Rugby Programme is the Elite Tier of our Rugby Development Framework, aimed at the best young (under 19's) men rugby players. Places are limited and those not quite ready for the Elite programme are directed to local clubs or play in the CSM Festivals.

CWA Elite Rugby Programmes play in the AoC Sport east region league. Students have progressed onto senior rugby at local clubs and are involved in professional club talent development groups. Students have the opportunity to apply for Scholarship in America.

Netball Academy

The Elite Netball Programme is the Elite Tier of our Netball Development Framework, aimed at the best young Netball players at under 19’s. Places are limited and those not quite ready for the Elite programme are directed to local clubs or play in the CSM Festivals.

CWA Elite Netball Programmes play in the AoC Sport east region league. Students have progressed onto senior netball at local clubs and opportunities are provided to engage in the England Netball Talent Pathway.

You will receive:

  • 5 hours of professional coaching per week
  • 2 hours of athlete development programme
  • Free gym access
  • Sports science support including regular fitness assessments
  • Sports nutrition support
  • Sports psychology support
  • Performance analysis
  • Strength and conditioning support and programming
