The College of West Anglia

A safe, stimulating and welcoming educational nursery where your children can play and learn to give them the best start in life

Welcome to Applewood Nursery, a caring and safe environment for children. We offer a place for them to develop at their own pace and focus on encouraging their personal, social, emotional and physical development.

We help develop communication and language skills whilst introducing mathematics, IT skills, expressive art/design and a wider appreciation of the world in which they live. Our aim is for all of our children to develop the skills and knowledge that make them independent, healthy, resilient, inquisitive, happy, assertive, individual and creative. Our staff and management seek to know all the children well to ensure their learning is tailored to help them reach their full potential.

We constantly use learning opportunities and activities to support children’s progress, providing measurable improvements. This includes the use of modern technology and the centre is well equipped with IT and numerous iPads, which the children can use to further extend their skills.

Securely located on the College of West Anglia’s King’s Lynn campus, Applewood Nursery is open Monday to Friday (08.00 – 17.30) and can care for up to 54 children aged from 2 months to 5 years old.

At our last Ofsted inspection there were a number of outstanding elements commented upon, including meeting the needs of individual children, the excellent relationships with parents and the systems for evaluating practice to offer a high quality service.

As well as a modern, fullyequipped indoor facility, we have an exceptional outdoor play area that allows children to explore and develop whilst learning in an environment that encourages independence and physical activity.

We recognise how crucial it is to have a highly skilled and experienced team who are passionate about their work and dedicated to making a positive difference to the lives of each and every child.

We share information with parents/carers to work together to support and encourage children’s learning and development. Each of our three rooms have dedicated staff identified as key persons with specific responsibilities for a small group of children.

The key person is a point of contact for parents and will help build secure relationships, which help children to feel familiar, confident and safe. We want you to be happy with what we do, and the key person will help develop the routines personal to each child, whilst providing reports about progress. We regularly record every child’s development, including detailed information about activities and achievements and encourage parents/carers to discuss their child’s progress at any time.

Not only do we offer education through creativity and play but we seek to instil confidence, enjoyment and enthusiasm from an early age. We take great pride in ensuring that all of our children feel happy and secure so they are excited and proud to be a member of Applewood Nursery.

Our day

Each day we provide a fantastic range of play and educational activities. There is regular routine, which takes into account the differing stages of development and individual interests. Activities are planned in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and we seek to involve children in the planning processes to ensure we satisfy their needs and interests.

Our day also includes socialising over lunch and dinner times, with healthy hot and cold food that the children collectively eat dependent upon their package. Our food is cooked on-site by our own dedicated cook using fresh, healthy ingredients.

Parents as partners

The partnership between the family and the nursery staff is crucial to the child’s happiness and development.

When your child comes to Applewood Nursery we build on the foundations which you have laid and will continue to develop at home with your family.

You are the most important people to your child so we need your help to ensure they progress and succeed in reaching their potential. Once they are settled at nursery we hope you will be able to stay and help from time to time – you are always welcome. You can help in many different ways: talking with the children, joining in activities, sharing books with children, helping them on the computer, woodwork, baking, playing games, accompanying us on visits or helping with jobs around the nursery – whatever suits you is great for us.
